The idea will be a project – this is not a shame: Oberwart wants to repair the ESC!

Date:

Who would have thought? An assumed recess suddenly becomes a real announcement: Oberwart actually makes you serious and wants to officially submit an application for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

The official e -mail from the municipality went to ORF in the last week, where the catalog was requested with the application criteria. And the whole of Austria, asks: how can this work? As is known, Mayor Georg Rosner, who got the headlines with his PR -State handle, behind the crazy idea, including the application.

A crazy idea should now be a real project
He continues to smile at criticism. “We must be brave, have dreams and not have to smile at visions,” Rosner stays there, while skeptics talk about “Grandwahn” in the “ESC 2026 Oberwart” project. Rosner’s answer: Millstreet. In 1993 the Irish Nest took the Eurovision Song Contest in the village with just under 1700 inhabitants. A hall, no experience and still a hit. Then the tourist buses rolled, the media -ultrasound was gigantic and Millstreet wrote ESC history. Oberwart can also do that, the leader of the city city is still convinced of the big visions.

Many obstacles, even more motivation
The seemingly insurmountable ‘obstacles’ in the city with 150 hotel beds, a hall with only 6,000 seats and a train station, where only the wooden train remains, should not delay the third largest city in the Burgenland. The mayor: “Maybe Europe needs that exactly. A crazy small city with a big heart.”
