Whether you cut them, use poison (which you just shouldn’t!) Or mow with the soaphels: neophhytes are very difficult to kill and push back from native nature. Expert Johannes Gepp of the Naturschutzbund Styria explains what to overcome.
Neophytes, these are plants that are brought to areas by people (whether they are desired or undesirable, for example because they stick to shoe soles) in areas where they originally did not occur – and have actually not lost anything. Because they reduce the domestic nature and suffocate their growth in the button. “In our federal state there are mainly four plant species that are problematic,” explains Johannes Gepp, the head of the Styria Nature Conservation Association.
