An 80-year-old man was killed in a room fire in Vienna-Meidling on Sunday afternoon. The fire brigade received several reports after smoke gas was suddenly ignited.
The fire raged on the fifth floor of an apartment building on Rosasgasse and was even visible from the street, said Jürgen Figerl, spokesman for the professional fire brigade. Emergency services were alerted around 4 p.m.
Rapid intervention of the emergency services
The fire was extinguished with two fire extinguishers. At the same time, a person search was conducted. The lifeless man was found. By acting quickly, the fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to other apartments.
