Shock for the residents of an apartment building in Swarovskistrasse in Schwaz, Tyrol, on Sunday morning! As reported, a candle fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. and spread to two other balconies. So also on that of Olcay Bingöl.
“I was still in bed when the fire broke out,” said the 33-year-old, who lives in the apartment on the first floor with his wife (30) and their four-year-old child, in an interview with “Tiroler Kroon”. “We immediately ran outside to get to safety and alerted the fire brigade. It was a very frightening situation, especially for our child. It screamed loudly.” All other residents of the facility were also able to escape.
Woman slightly injured when putting out the blanket
Just five minutes later, the volunteer fire brigades from Schwaz and Jenbach and the professional fire brigade from the company Tyrolit arrived with 80 Floriani youths and twelve vehicles. They were able to fight the flames quickly and prevent them from spreading to other apartments. “A resident suffered minor injuries when he tried to put out the fire with a blanket,” police said.
“First fire we experienced”
Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire service, material damage was fortunately limited. “Our blinds, the balcony furniture and the facade were damaged,” says Bingöl, “we are still in shock. It was the first fire we experienced.”
The family and all other residents were able to return to their apartments after the operation. “But we had to ventilate it well to get rid of the burning smell,” concludes the 33-year-old, who hopes “that we will no longer experience such a dramatic situation.”
