Child drove in the water – so Bub (5) goes after a swimming accident in Linz

Date:

The five-year-old who was motionless in a swimming pool in Linz Parkbad on Sunday and was saved by a mother-son team is home again. It was not the first bad accident, and since Corona Pandemic the swimming skills of young people have deteriorated. Every tenth five to 19 year olds cannot swim.

1 June will probably celebrate five -year Nagibe from Mödling as a second birthday in the future. As reported, the boy, as reported, drove in the Linz Parkbad in the adventurous Pole without noticing his parents. Gulnar Ismailova (37) and her son Umut (8) discovered the boy and pulled him out of the water. The 37-year-old immediately started with a heart massage per minute and half later the boy started breathing again.

On Monday the Kepler University Hospital came the final all -clean: the five -jyear -old was already allowed to leave the hospital. This time the bad accident went well again, but life-saving like the mother-son team are not always on the spot. Because nine people died in drowning accidents in Upper Austria last year, there were even 14 in 2023.

Every tenth to 19 is not -wimmer
That is no coincidence: according to a study by the Board of Trustees (KFV), seven percent of the Austrians cannot swim and for five to 19-year-olds every tenth is non-Zwimmer. The swimming skills of the eleven and twelve -year -olds have noticeably deteriorated. The Board of Trustees attributes this to Corona Pandemic.

Corona was a “turning point”
“Many swimming hours have been omitted during Pandemie, many have not learned to swim at this time,” says Michael Heilbrunner. The state advisor for swimming at the Youth Red Cross Oö says: “That was a bit of a turning point that we are catching up again now.” More than 18,000 children took a swimming pool with the Youth Red Cross last year.

Swimming lessons fail due to infrastructure
According to the curriculum, all primary school students must learn to swim, but in practice the Heilbrunner does not always work: “Sometimes it is not possible that schools go swimming because the infrastructure is missing.” Some classes were therefore never in the water in primary school of four years.
