Pope Leo XIV asked him to pray for him during a meeting with employees of the State Secretariat. “In these few weeks it has become clear that the pope alone cannot continue and that it is very necessary to count on the cooperation of many in the Roman Curia,” he said.
He thanked everyone of the heart, also for “the competence they offer to the church”. “Thank you because I know you are praying for me every day. I hope you really do it,” said Leo XIV. The State Secretariat coordinates the Vatican authorities.
“As we know, the history of this institution goes back to the end of the 15th century. In the course of time it has adopted an increasingly universal character and has increasingly expanded, whereby further tasks has taken as a result of new requirements in the church area and in relationships and international organizations (…),” said the pope. At present, almost half of the employees are believers, and the authority also has more than 50 women.
Pope likes to sing
By the way, the Roman Catholic Church received a “singing pope” with Leo XIV. He knows the tradition of liturgical singing from his time in the Augustine Order. The American mainly impressed the Timbre of his voice. Some videos from his years in Peru show that he likes to sing. During a recording from 2014, for example, the former bishop of the Peruvian diocese of Chiclayo can be seen, while sings the Christmas song “Feliz Navidad”, accompanied by a guitarist.
Here you can see the first episode of “Let’s Sing with the Pope”:
The Bavarian musicologist and the religious Robert Mehlhart, head of the Pontifical Institute for Sacred Music in Rome, has placed a video series entitled “Let’s Sing With The Pope” (“Singing With The Pope”) on YouTube. In the videos, the 43-year-old explains, among other things, the tradition of the liturgical songs and the Gregorian singing, which are voted on the stock exchange.
