Have deficits led to death? – Swiss emergency landing in Graz: criticism of protective masks

Date:

Almost half a year after the emergency landing of a Swiss plane in Graz, in which a stewardess died, is now the final report of a Swiss research center. There are serious defects, especially with the respiratory protection, the experts masse major problems.

On December 23, 2024 there was a dramatic incident at Graz Airport. A plane from the Swiss Swiss Swiss had to stand up on the way from Bucharest to Zurich because of motorcycle problems and smoke in the cabin in Graz. Several people, including crew members, were seriously injured. A 23-year-old stewardess later died in the hospital.

After the Swiss Flight Accident Investigation Center had taken over the investigation almost a month ago (we reported), the final report is now available.

Employees poorly trained
Experts confirm the first assumptions and do not save with harsh criticism. The report speaks of “serious defects”. For example, there were shortages during the training of the Swiss flight attendants in dealing with the problematic reservation pasks of the problematic reserves, quoted “Austrian wings” from the report.

It is said that these such smoking hoods protect the crew members in an airplane in an airplane. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old stewardess died in the Swiss emergency landing in Graz. That is why the protective equipment was in particular the focus of the research. Because already in the summer of 2023 had been problems with the smokehoods of the crew on a Swiss flight. Various crew members would have had problems set up the smoke protection hoods correctly.

The exchange of the protective caps is slowly running
After this incident it started to replace the problematic protective caps, but this was just pretending. So it happened that the old models of the caps were also on board when the flight, which had to be called in Graz. Moreover, the research agency said that the training of the crews was perhaps insufficient: “It was only worked with dummies that differed considerably from the actually used models,” said “Austrian wings”.

In the meantime, according to the Swiss media, Swiss has replaced the affected smoke protection caps with other models.
