Serious accident in the mountains of Upper Austria: a climber (59) from Germany had dissolved both security carabines in the Mahdlgupf when he slid on the smooth ground and crashed into the depth. A comrade for the mountain offered first aid.
The 59-year-old German citizen wanted to celebrate the climb in Steinbach in Steinbach on Monday morning. Via Ferrata has the difficulty that D/E and 1200 climbers can be controlled before the top of the Mahdlsgupf is reached in the Höllengebirge. After a few meters, the 59-year-old noted that he did not have the difficulties of the Via Ferrata and decided to reverse.
Safety carrabiner hung up
When he was back in the lighter area of the Via Ferrata (about eight meters above the entrance), he wanted to hang his two safety carabinations of the Via Ferrata brake at the same time. At the moment the climber slid on the smooth surface with one foot and the unsecured over the Rocksteel collapsed about 10 to 15 meters.
Companion offers first aid
His companion immediately relegated him and offered first aid. Another via Ferrata gave an emergency call. The 59-year-old was injured indefinitely and after the first aid with the medical emergency helicopter “Martin 3” flew to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck.
