Daphne Caruana Galizia – Journalist Murder: Life for Bomb suppliers

About eight years after the fatal bomb attack on journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, two men were sentenced to life imprisonment in Malta for helping murder.

The court in the capital Valletta announced the sentence after the jury found the two guilty last week. They would have delivered the car bomb with which the blogger was killed on October 16, 2017.

Caruana Galizia was one of the most famous journalists in the country. She investigated corruption in the Mediterranean and published for years on the sometimes much -reaching corruption. The murder caused in the EU island state and international indignation.

Already several beliefs – but the brain is missing
According to the investigation, the murder attack was committed by three men. Two brothers were convicted of murder in 2022 to 40 years. Another accomplice was already sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2021 after it announced and revealed the details of the crime.

The recently convicted men took care of the bomb, which contained approximately 500 grams of gelatin explosives and could be inflamed by the mobile phone. The contract killers placed the explosive device under the driver’s seat from the car of Caruana Galizia and made it disappear.

The blogger family, which was present in court on Tuesday, expressed the hope that the judgments were a step in the direction of a safer world for journalists.

Businessman would have commissioned
The alleged brain continues to wait for his process. The businessman Yorgen Fenech is said to have given the murder commissioned and paid 150,000 euros to the contract killers.

The sprout of one of the most influential entrepreneurial families in Malta was the director of the Power Plant Consortium, to which Caruana Galizia investigated when it was murdered. He denies all allegations.
