Graz’s tragedy shakes the world. Since the terrible murder, the eyes have been all the more focused on large events. The Mega Festival was peaceful on the Pannonia fields in Nickelsdorf. On Wednesday around 4 p.m. we started on two of the three phases. The strongest day is expected on Thursday with good more than 50,000 fans.
The fans traveled to the Caravan Convoy in Nickelsdorf on Whit Monday. When the fatal scenes took place in Grazer Borg the next day, the first campers arrived at the festival location in large numbers at the same time. On Wednesday at noon, 80 percent of the expected ticket owners already collapsed on the Pannonia fields. “Everything is going peacefully,” said control inspector Ludwig Goldenitsch, the central police control center in the middle of the visitors. At least 50,000 fans can be expected every day. Moreover, there will be extra thousands of day guests tomorrow.
All Scenarios
The emergency services are well prepared. “Every scenario that could happen is taken into account in our security concept. This has been the case for years,” Goldenitsch summarizes. “The emergency services must be well prepared for all possibilities. This is always particularly important,” emphasizes the State Police Director Martin Huber.
Apart from many folders, paramedics, emergency doctors and fire brigade teams, the director will accompany the festival around the clock with 170 to 200 officials and uniformed – including the unit. The police originated from specialists for ownership work to experienced dog processors with their four -legged colleagues who have been trained in following explosives.
“Police Inspectorate” for all visitors
Security starts with the inputs. During access controls, dangerous or dubious “souvenirs” are removed from the employees of circulation security, check every newcomer and their luggage with a metal detector. The “Police Inspectorate Nova Rock” is open to every fan in the tent area, a bit outside the core zone, if there are problems, such as a missing mobile phone. All Blue Light organizations have their festival chair there. “Reviews take place several times a day,” says Goldenitsch. The Nova Rock can start!
