In Vechta in lower Saxony, emergency services are looking for an alligator that may have been suspended. A young man closed the reptile on Friday in a rain basin and filmed the animal. A spokesperson for the city council said it would probably come from illegal breeding.
Experts would have checked the video and really found. The search for the reptile then started on Saturday, with the area in which it was closed on Friday, the spokesperson said. First it was sought through the air about 2.5 hectares with drones – but without success. Now the emergency services try to catch the alligator with a live trap. A red rat serves as bait. According to the German media, the cage is about 1.3 meters long and was set up in a retention books. When the animal appears there, the camera -monitor grabs.
“The animal probably comes from an illegal race and was exposed to. There are no reports about a missing alligator from legal shares,” said Herbert Fischer from the German city of Vechta. According to the recordings, it is a young animal that is about 80 to 100 centimeters long.
Hidden from people
According to the city spokesperson, the reptile is very shy and hides from people. There is therefore no danger of him, not even for pets, Fischer said. The alligator continued to search on Sunday, the retention and the green areas are closed. If the bait does not bring anything to the rat, the water can be removed from the retention books if necessary.
