The 59-year-old social worker Emilija Lakatos from Peuerbach suddenly suffered from the incurable disease a year ago. Your family is now fighting the right care. The life expectancy of women, whose muscles are gradually paralyzed, is probably about two to three years.
She was there for others all her life, but now Emilija Lakatos – named EMA from her family and friends – needs the help of others. In April last year, 59-year-old shock diagnosis as (Amyotrophe lateral sclerosis) received.
At that time it all started with problems in her feet, the social worker stumbled more often. Then she had problems with access. After a real doctor’s marathon, the suspicion was confirmed.
“With this incurable disease, which gradually paralyzes the nerve cells of the muscles, she was given a prediction of two to three remaining years,” says daughter -in -Aw Bettina.
However, since the diagnosis, the state of the Peuerbacher has quickly deteriorated. “A daily life without AIDS is no longer possible. EMA is on a rehabilitation, but when it comes home, we don’t have a suitable care for her,” is the family desperate.
In fact, the 59-year-old would depend on a specially trained 24-hour nursing personnel. “Until a few months ago, this care for people was taken over as a completely from the State of the upper Austria. However, this financing was removed without replacement. With the health care allowance it is only classified in level four, so we also fight for a higher one. The costs for a care provider with experience in the area are 3500 euros,” says Bettina, that is active in the social sector. A speech computer and other special devices should also be purchased soon.
The family makes every effort to make EMA’s big wish – to see her three granddaughters grow up for as long as possible. A big party for the 60s of EMA is on the program on 24 June.
