Bowling Tragedy – Teacher dies in the eyes of his students when excursion

Date:

What had started as a happy excursion to the bowling center ended in an incredible tragedy: a 63-year-old teacher at the Polytechnic School in Scheibbs in Lower Austria had a sudden heart attack during a school trip in the District-front the eyes of his students. All help came too late for the educator.

Like every year, the last classes of the PTS Scheibbs had made a trip together – as a thank you for a successful school year and the usually good certificate. The goal this time was the popular bowling center on the Erlauf. The mood was exuberant, the young people were happy with a day without lessons, about sporting activities, a good snack and soft drinks. But around noon the photo tiped.

Suddenly the teacher (63) has compiled in the middle of the hall. First there was confusion, then panic. Some students responded immediately, presented for help, while others were understandably stunned and shocked. First aids immediately took resuscitation measures, the Red Cross and an emergency doctor team arrived only a few minutes later, even a helicopter of the Emergency Medicine of the ÖAMTC landed.

All efforts were in vain
But despite all the efforts, the life of the popular teacher could no longer be saved. He died on the spot. For the students who had to experience the dramatic incident, it was a shock that was deeply impressed. “The rescue chain worked really well. But sometimes it doesn’t use it,” says the deep -affected director Andreas Steinmetz, who spoke with the teacher shortly before the collapse. “He was in a good mood, good and did not complain about anything. And suddenly he fell over,” Steinmetz cannot believe.

To protect the young people against the stressful impressions, they were immediately taken to the nearby fire station. There, the Red Cross crisis intervention team took over. Members of the deceased teacher were also psychologically supported.

Death suddenly came and unexpected
“Sudden death became all unprepared for us all,” said school management. The students of the specialized group, which were taught by the deceased, were particularly affected. Many of them knew him as a calm, dedicated teacher with a big heart for young people.

The school will remain in the emergency situation in the coming days. The crisis intervention team remains on site to accompany students and colleagues. Conversations with parents, psychologists and the teaching staff are intended to help process what happened.

A school year that had started with hope, plans and projects ended for many with tears, bewilderment – and the painful loss of a person who was indispensable for daily life.
