Loyal Donau Island Festival Visitors are used to celebrating three days on the “island” in the last weekend of June. But in 2026 the mega event had to be postponed.
The reason for the unique shift is the Prix of Austria-Grand in Spielberg. “We don’t want to compete with another big event,” says Jörg Neumayer, secretary of the Staatspartij van de Vienna Spö, the decision to make an appointment. The 43rd Danube island festival will therefore take place from 3 to 5 July.
“No new scenery date”
The shift has no effect on the planning and organization of the island festival. He is also no fear that many potential guests are already on the summer holidays. Finally, on July 3, 2026, the school was closed alone. However, the first weekend in July should not be the new regular date: “There are no considerations for a permanent shift.”
Dissolved twice
However, it is not a premiere that the three -day festival will not take place at the end of June in 2026. In 2008, the break was postponed to autumn because of the European football championship, which was also held in Vienna in June. The same happened in 2020 when the coronavirus forced the organizers to have an extremely reduced edition take place in September.
Don’t worry in times of saving pressure
With regard to the specific plans for the festival next year, Neumayer has not yet announced any actions. What is certain is that the spö wants to keep the variety of the program to tackle the widest possible audience. The inclusion offer and the focus on sustainability must also be expanded.
