The violence on the market continues to increase. She has already experienced 44 percent in Salzburg. Veronika Aigner leather reveals what could help here and to what extent customers can be obliged to hire the customer. She is a family council and has been working in the industry since 1997.
“It was not so long ago when a customer threatened to take his gun out of the car and shoot her,” says Veronika Aigner leather, Pinzgau’s council council, in an interview with the “Krone”. The reason for this was the indication that he could not always eat fruit in a branch without paying for it.
In Salzburg, almost every second employee has already experienced violence in the work. 37 percent is immediately threatened, according to a survey by the GPA Union among 1500 employees. More than half of the respondents stated that violence in the workplace had increased over the past five years.
More than half have already been shouted
58 percent and 63 percent had to be insulted at least once in work. A third was also mocked and 37 percent endangered.
Numbers that hardly surprise Aigner-Lener. Dealing in the retail trade is currently very disrespectful. Especially bad: this also affects the private life of the affected. “It’s hard to switch off in the evening,” says the Council Council.
For employees, she wants mandatory protective measures – from violence protection officials to possible retreat for employees to a binding minimum line -up on peak times. “Sometimes there are only one or two employees on markets alone on the site,” says Aigner leather.
Her experiences also coincide with the reasons of the GPA, why situations often escalate in the retail trade. At the front there are a lack of structures, which increases the workload, too few staff and poor organization.
It starts with the simple things
But the Council Council also takes the customers: “I want more respect and courtesy towards the employees – that is about and higher,” she says. This would start with the greeting and with the simple things like “please” and “thanks”.
