An elephant killed five people in Mozambique, Southeast Africa, including two children. The youngest victim was one and a half years old, the other child twelve.
The group was attacked by the pachyderm while working in the fields in Cabo Delgado province, which borders Tanzania. Police have launched a search for the animal.
Wild animals defend their habitat
The district of Macomia, where the attack took place, borders Quirimbas National Park, home to hundreds of elephants. Deadly clashes between humans and wildlife continue to occur in many African countries as a result of shrinking natural areas and competition for limited natural resources.
