Deadly alpine drama Sunday in the Ausserfern in Tyrol: After a German reported his son missing, who had left for a ski trip, the 53-year-old was found dead during a night search on the top of the Steinkarspitze.
At about 8:45 p.m., the father of the 53-year-old German from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district reported to police that his son had left for a morning ski trip in neighboring Ausserfern and had not returned home.
Body discovered shortly after midnight
Due to bad weather, a helicopter search was not possible. Mountain rescuers then had to climb to the Steinkarspitze on foot. Shortly after midnight, the sad certainty: the 53-year-old German was found dead in the top area.
The body was recovered Monday morning. The exact background is currently unclear. Corresponding investigations are underway.
