Large-scale police manhunt in the Innviertel in Upper Austria: In Überackern, the car of a suspect (50) who allegedly shot an opponent was in Burghausen, Germany, near the Austrian border. The wanted person has been arrested as part of a Cobra operation and the danger to the population has been averted.
At around 8.30 pm, several shots were fired in front of an arcade in the Lindach industrial estate in Burghausen in Bavaria, right on the border with the Innviertel. A 32-year-old man was so seriously injured that he died. The alleged perpetrator fled, in Bavaria and Upper Austria the population was warned not to pick up hitchhikers.
In Upper Austria, the police were immediately alerted because it was uncertain whether the suspect, a 50-year-old German, might have driven over the Salzach Bridge to the Innviertel. In fact, shortly before midnight, a police patrol found the car in Überackern, near a watchtower.
Because it was known that the suspect was armed with a pistol, the area was cordoned off over a large area and the Cobra was alerted.
At 12:45 PM, the special forces began to arrest the suspect. It was unclear whether he was in the car or hiding nearby. The 50-year-old was arrested an hour later. This also eliminates the danger to the population.
Details about the arrest are not yet available, the suspect is being transferred to the police in Braunau. As soon as there is news, we will inform you on krone.at.
