Dirty business – drug dealers use the internet as a hub

Date:

A report from the Ministry of the Interior provides a clear and shocking overview of developments in the field of narcotics. The brand new report on narcotics shows that 20 percent of drugs are already distributed via the internet – organized Balkan gangs as masterminds of the drug mafia.

“Drug trafficking is one of the largest industries for organized crime,” the analysis said. Because the dirty drug trade is closely intertwined with the illegal arms trade, because the competing organizations also arm themselves accordingly, one would say.

And: With the huge profits, the drug lords also finance other activities, including even terrorist organizations. Rival clans are getting bolder. Shoot first, then negotiate. For example, in the shooting in 2018 with one dead and one seriously injured in front of a Viennese bar in the center.

Specialists from the Federal Criminal Police Office conduct online investigations, as 20 percent of all drugs are already sold via the internet or via courier services.

A kilo of cocaine costs no less than 47,100 euros
These drug hunters also calculated wholesale prices among drug sponsors: €47,100 is paid for a kilo of cocaine and €30,400 for heroin. With a kilo price of 3,700 euros, cannabis is a cheap entry-level drug that many people do not take seriously. And 1000 ecstasy tablets cost 4400 euros. Serbs, Germans, Turks and Afghans are the most frequently shown dealers.

Furthermore, the BKA researchers point out once again that not only the dealers, but also drug users endanger public safety: The problem area around the Vienna Praterstern is mentioned as an example. Because where drug use takes place on public roads, the sense of safety of passers-by is affected. If you don’t take action against these zones, entire neighborhoods would be devalued.

200 drug-related deaths per year in Austria
Purchase crime – from basement break-ins to pickpocketing and robberies – is also a murky side effect. When drug addicts will do almost anything to buy “their stuff”. Not to mention the suffering of the families: about 200 addicts die every year as a result of drug abuse.
