In the debate about taxes on tips for weeks, a solution now comes closer: after negotiations, the Chamber of Commerce and the Union – and therefore ÖVP and Spö – should now be. The Neos’s permission is still being processed.
In principle, tips in this country are subject to social security contributions. In the past the amounts were difficult to control, and now they also seem to be in the cash register with the rising trend for card payment. This led to a number of high additional claims from the Austrian health insurance fund (ÖGK) and has eliminated extensive discussions.
After standardization of the tips, call the tip
In many cases, the taxes are inserted on tips via a fixed rate. However, this varies depending on the industry and the state. This led to increasing calls according to a standardization of the rule. What this standardization should look like there are different approaches. The employer side is in favor of removing taxes on drinking money, said it on Tuesday in the “Ö1 Morning Journal”. This would also lead to employer contributions. The representatives of the employees, however, warned that this would reduce the claims of pension and unemployment for employees.
The chairman of the Austrian health insurance fund, Andreas Huss, recently proposed a national uniform fixed rate of at least 100 euros, which must then be adjusted annually to inflation. However, the amount was too high for employers. If a possible compromise is a uniform but lower blanket rumor in negotiating circles, said the ORF Radio broadcast.
The social partners have apparently agreed now, but without revealing details. The three government parties are now on the train, they still have to come to a green branch. In the case of a smaller reform, the subject could be dealt with this week in the National Council. If the reform becomes more extensive, there must be an assessment procedure.
