South Korea has attributed six North Korean fishermen to their home country. According to the Ministry of Association in Seoul, the men had repeatedly expressed the wish to return to Noord -Korea, the official news agency Yonhap van Zuid -Korea reported.
The Noord -Koreans were stranded in South Korea in March and May of this year, after their boats were demolished by strong wind. The return from Noord -Koreans to their home country are rare.
Human rights activists are skeptical
South Korean human rights organizations had a critical response to the planned return of the Noord -Koreans. In a report from the “Korea Times”, the activist Peter Jung of the NGO justice for Noord -Korea asked the intention of the fishermen to return to their home country first checked by an independent organization.
The South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who has been ruling since 4 June, has promised to improve the tense relationships with North Korea. The return of the North Koreans is also interpreted by South Korean media as a gesture to prove a good will to Pyongyang.
