After almost twenty years, air travelers in the United States will in many cases be eliminated in the future, with the routine going out during security check. The US Transport Security Authority (TSA) has once introduced this measure to discover potential explosives in shoes.
“We assume that this change will drastically shorten the waiting times of the passengers during our checkpoints,” said Homeland Protection Kristi Minister of Homeland Protection on Tuesday.
- The routine had started in August 2006. Before that, Richard Reid, who became known as the “shoe bomber”, tried to light explosive stations with matches on a flight from Paris to Miami in his shoes.
- In 2013, the TSA introduced the Preccheck program for reliable travelers whose members did not have to move their shoes. Moreover, children under the age of twelve and adults aged 75 and older were freed from the procedure.
A statement from the Ministry of Homeland said that other aspects of the TSA security procedure remained unchanged. The identity control, the secure flight control and other processes must continue to be passed on.
