Difficult rescue operation in Muhr in the Salzburg Lungau: three Germans fell on Tuesday in an alpine -needed situation in the Muritzen Scharte – Cold Wall Spitze. Mountain rescuers, alpine police officers and two police helicopters hurried to help with unfavorable weather conditions.
A poor or lack of preparation has probably led to the emergency situation. “Fortunately there was a reception of mobile phones,” says Michael Schlick, local office and operations manager of the MUHR Mountain Rescue in Lungau. At 3.40 pm the family brought the emergency call to approximately 2300 meters above sea level. The walkers were not sufficiently equipped for this tour at this height. The question is whether they would have survived the night outside.
Difficult rescue operation
The family may not have obtained a weather report before the walk. The rescue operation turned out to be extremely complex due to the bad weather conditions with snowfall and heavy rainfall.
After six hours, walkers aged 20, 54 and 56 were finally brought to safety – Hypotherm and soaked. Nobody was injured.
