Top doctors have reached a “herbate”

Top Medical Top Performance of Surgeons in the State Clinic St. Pölten in Lower Austria: they have saved a patient from the life of Burgenland!

“Now my heart beats strong and at the right time,” laughs the 41-year-old marketing professional Markus Flatlerer. Because in the life-saving operation, which he survived very well in St. Pölten University Hospital, a procedure was used that not only saves him, but also hope for many other patients: the so-called Ross method.

Soft heart valve inserted
In Lower Austria it was now equipped for the first time with a particularly soft donor flap. “I had a congenital heart defect since my childhood. It had been unobtrusive for decades. But in the spring it suddenly went downhill – I was limp, had bad breath, was busy on my chest,” describes the now healthy man from Eisenstadt (Burgenland.).

Immediate transfer to St. Pölten
As a guardian angel, his treating doctor, Dr. Brigitte Lileg, who realized how serious the situation was – immediate transfer to St. Pölten. The experienced team of heart surgery of the case took it there. The scary diagnosis: leak with a high act of the aortic valve and therefore acute indication for surgery.

Special operation was necessary
Teacher Dr. Peter Bergmann, senior doctor at the clinic, advised a special operation. The own lung flap is transplanted with the sick Aortflap, while a donor flap is used instead of the first. This procedure in particular offers major benefits: Because no artificial material is used, no lifelong blood thinning is required – this makes a completely normal, active life possible!

But a particularly innovative variant was used in Flatschler: a cell -free implant not to stimulate the immune system as a fight against a “strange body”. All cells of the donor are removed by means of special enzymes, so that only the robust collagen structure of the flap – the SO -covered matrix – is stored. This installs itself in the body and significantly reduces the risk of rejection.

The goal: Avoid Follow Interventions
Prim. Prof. Priv.-EZ. Dr. Dominik Wiedemann – one of the best heart surgeons in Austria – has considerably promoted this technology in the Staatsmetropool, refined the special intervention for perfection. “Our goal is clear: we want to significantly reduce the later interventions – or, if possible, completely avoid it,” Wiedemann assures. “For this we have optimized the operating technology and took a big step with the new cell -free flap.”

“I’m full of Joie de Vivre”
The operation went without complications – a very complex intervention that both the skill and experience of Prof. dr. Wiedemann and DOZ demanded. Bergmann. Today, Flatisler is doing well again. “I am full of Joie de Vivre! I want to thank the whole team, but especially Prof. Wiedemann and Dr. Bergmann from the heart. Without their expertise, their dedication and their empathy, it would not have been possible,” said the Burgenland.

In St. Pölten you are proud of these top performance – and ready to give many patients a better future with this groundbreaking role.
