Many letters for the new pope: Leo XIV has received around 100 kilograms of post since his election on 8 May.
“The letters come from all over the world, and at the moment it is not possible to determine which country is the most written to the Pope,” said the head of the Roman sorting center of the Italian post, Antonello Chidichimo, the portal “Vatican news” according to Kathpress.
Pope Post is strictly controlled
The letters and postcards from the US, Kosovo and India are subject to security control in the Fiumicino sorting center and processed by a computer-controlled recording and weighing machine. The “Papst Post” then reaches the distribution center that is closest to the Vatican and is supplied by letter carriers.
The new Pope recently received a visit from the Ukrainian President Wolodyymyr Senskyj. Pope Leo received Senskyj in Castel Gandolfo, where the head of the church spends his summer vacation. The situation in Ukraine and the peace efforts were the focus of the conversation, as the Vatican announced.
