Aggressive shark stays longer for the beaches of Sydney

Date:

Bull sharks remain in front of Sydney’s beaches because of the increasing sea temperatures from year to year and could possibly stay there all year round. These sharks are considered particularly aggressive and is one of the most dangerous for people.

For 15 years, researchers investigated the signals of 92 marked copies in an area around the popular Bondi beach and the port of Sydney. The records showed that the Bull Sharks would now spend on average 15 days longer off the Sydney coast in the summer than in 2009, Nicolas Lubitz, researcher at James Cook University, explained. “If you stay longer, this means a larger time window to meet people and sharks,” he added.

1200 incidents with sharks
Since 1791 – 250 there have been more than 1200 incidents with sharks on the coast of Australia. Bull sharks, white sharks and tiger sharks usually attack people.

According to researchers, the sea temperature at Bondi Beach has risen from October to May with an average of 0.57 degrees Celsius.

The chance of a shark attack in Australia is still low, Lubitz explained. However, people must be aware that bull sharks can now be found more often in the coastal waters before Sydney.
