The fire brigade in St. Veit ad Gölsen in Lower Austria was alerted to a fire in a building using hazardous substances. The flames had spread from the garage to the roof construction of the residential building – the result was complex extinguishing work.
According to the district command, several jerry cans were damaged during the operation. About 110 liters of diesel flowed through a rainwater drain into the Wobach and Gölsen. The fuel was tied up a short time later and properly disposed of.
75 firefighters on duty
The fire broke out just after 4 p.m. and spread from the garage to the facade and rafter. The roof membrane had to be opened and the lower roof cut open to access the embers. 75 members of various fire brigades were deployed.
“Huge material damage”
After four hours “fire out” could be given. In the areas of the basement, the rafter and the attic there was “massive material damage”. The whole building was under smoke. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
