Carabinieri has arrested two people at the Italian-Austrian border crossing at Tarvisio for alleged smuggling. The handcuffs clicked for a 22-year-old Syrian at the wheel of a van with Austrian number plates.
The Syrian resident of Germany was stopped and then the 34 migrants who were in the van were able to get out, the Carabinieri said on Saturday. The undocumented migrants were housed in a refugee center in Friuli.
A 34-year-old Pakistani, who was also driving a vehicle with an Austrian number plate, was also arrested. A 44-year-old Pakistani with no ID was on board. The vehicle was impounded.
