An experienced rider (16) fell from her horse on Saturday in the Villach-Land district and was seriously injured.
The 16-year-old schoolgirl from the Spittal an der Drau district has been riding since she was three years old and was busy Saturday evening in the paddock of an equestrian center in Stockenboi. When she was about to jump a horse over a wooden pole about 40 centimeters high, the animal hit the obstacle with its front hooves and fell.
“The young rider was thrown from the horse and hit the ground hard next to it,” said a police officer. Although the 16-year-old was equipped with a helmet, riding gear, back protector and gloves, she suffered serious head and shoulder injuries. The rescue helicopter “RK1” brought the victim to the LKH Villach. The horse was unharmed.
