Shock moment for three cyclists on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Langkampfen! For the amateur athletes there was a meeting that they would have liked to have missed. Ironically, on a forest trail, which – as luck would have it – bears the name “Bärenbad”, a large predator suddenly appeared during their bike ride at the exit to the Höhlenstein-Steig. The trio immediately fled and immediately reported the terrifying “encounter” to the police in Wörgl.
“The cyclists are three locals – a 63-year-old man and his two companions,” said a Tyrolean Krone official, adding: “One of them apparently didn’t really notice the bear as it drove past. The three should have left quickly.” Fortunately no one was injured.
The sighting was subsequently reported to authorities. According to the state, “Meister Petz” was about 20 meters away from the cyclists and was definitely trotting on the forest trail. Finally, the police inspectorate in Kufstein was informed of the incident by the hunting tenant.

Because it was not the first time that a bear suddenly appeared in the municipality of Langkampfen. On June 14, one was photographed by a wildlife camera and genetically confirmed two days later by a sheep slaughter. And at the end of June, three sheep were killed on an alpine pasture in Thiersee. Also in this case, genetic testing – as the country recently announced – then confirmed a bear as the culprit.
