“Over the past few months, there have been significant changes in my personal life that require rest and tranquility that have forced me to take a break for a while over the past two weeks,” said the number two. from Pedro Sánchez leader through a statement.

“For all this, and given the difficulty of reconciling the demands of rest and care, which are essential in my current situation, with the intensity required by the leadership of the party, I have resigned as Deputy Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party,” he added.

Lastra thanked the party, his colleagues from the Federal Executive Commission and Ferraz staff. “It’s hard to find people with such dedication and ability,” he stressed, adding that “they are a source of pride for this party, who will always be in good hands with them.”

He has also thanked the socialist affiliates and militants. “If I was, am and will be anything, it is a member of this party. It was a privilege to be your deputy secretary-general and it is to represent our party in parliament. Lastra’s resignation comes at a difficult time for the socialist party after the poor results of the Andalusian elections and with calls from some socialists for a replacement in the spokespersons.
