The Romanian President Klaus Johannis surprisingly explained his resignation on Monday. He will deposit his office within 48 hours, Johanis said.
The conservative politician rather comes with his step of a possible height after the right -wing populist opposition in parliament had started a corresponding procedure. After the canceled presidential elections in December, Johannis had only been in office.
The mandate period of Johannis ended in December, but the Constitutional Court referred to Article 83 of the Constitution when the Constitution was elected, according to which the head of state left only after his successor had been committed.
Distribution procedure for Johannis “useless”
Johannis described the office procedure that was set against him as “completely useless” – on the one hand because he would be allocated within a few months, on the other because he never violated the constitution at any time. However, in order to save the country a political crisis with serious consequences, he is taking the step back. He will separate from the office on Wednesday 12 February, says Johannis.
According to the Constitutional, Liberal Senate President Iliy Bolojan now takes over his office, who will now be head of state until after the presidential election in May. The original choice was canceled by the highest court on the basis of knowledge of the secret service, according to which the campaign was manipulated via social media. The first round of the elections had surprisingly won the previously known extremist extremist Calin Georgescu, who had promoted support, especially on the social network of Tiikkot.
