The thermometer continues to rise tirelessly this week. The peak is expected in Vienna on Wednesday at 36 degrees Celsius, in other parts of Austria it can even reach 38 degrees. With the tips of the “Krone” you will survive the hot week in the city a little easier.
By mid-week at the latest, all of Vienna will be sweating. Because according to ZAMG, the thermometer will climb to 36 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which can feel like 40 degrees Celsius in a large city. Cooling down – in one form or another – is urgently needed. And available here:
- Bathing fun: Off to the cool water! Free locations include: Donauinsel, Alte Donau, bathing pond Hirschstetten, Lobau, Mühlwasser or Ziegelteich am Wienerberg.
- To skate: Yes, you can even do that in the middle of summer. Every Tuesday on the covered ice rink in the Stadthalle (15th, Roland-Rainer-Platz 1).
- Salt cave: A stay in the salt cave (1st, Seilerstätte 15) is not only pleasantly cool, but also good for your health.
- Cooling Center: In this cool space in the SCN, which is provided by the Red Cross, people who suffer from the heat can relax for a few hours (21st, Ignaz-Köck-Straße 1).
- Climate oases: Caritas provides shady spots in parish gardens.
- Music by the water: You can enjoy the cool evening breeze on the Old Danube with live music at the Floating Concerts. Info: www.meine-insel.at
- Ice cream baby! And what better to help against the scorching heat than a delicious ice cream? The Austrian trend variety this year is the chocolate banana. But stracciatella with rosemary is also very popular – usually the refinement of creamy ice cream with fresh herbs. Also in: vegan ice cream.
Bathe in the fountain? Not banned but…
The idea of bath fountains has been haunting Vienna for a few days now. Very tempting in the heat. But MA 31 advises against this: “The water is not treated, but simply pumped in a circuit. That saves costs and protects the environment.” Anyone who cares about their health should therefore stand under a misty stele.
Cool tips for hot dog days
Unlike humans, dogs or cats, hamsters and guinea pigs cannot regulate their body temperature by sweating. Sufficient moisture is therefore essential to protect them from dehydration. Here are a few tips to watch out for with pets:
- Shady houses for small animals. The housing should never be in direct sunlight.
- Never leave a dog in the car!
- Walks in the morning or late evening.
- There are dog baths in Seestadt, Teich Hirschstetten and at the Angelibad on the Old Danube.
- The following applies to cats: stroking with damp hands cools them down. Also create retreats.
