Unbelievable: a young East Styrian woman was hit by a car on Thursday evening in Vorau (Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district) and thrown into a ditch. The 16-year-old died, the driver drove on. “It is completely unimaginable what happened there,” the local mayor told the “Krone” in shock.
Holiday in Austria. A day when inns are usually on the agenda and families meet for get-togethers. But for a family in Vorau, this day was one that will forever be cast in an incredibly sad light.
16 year old was on his way home
Her son died in a terrible traffic accident last night. The 16-year-old from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district was walking along the road on his way home from friends when he was hit by a car and fatally injured. The driver of the accident car did not care about the injured person, simply abandoned him and committed a hit-and-run. It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened in Vorau.
Attempts at CPR Failed
The accident probably happened around 2 a.m. Two people who happened to be in their car saw a shoe and various car parts. Since the find seemed strange to them, they began searching the street and discovered the 16-year-old in the ditch. They immediately notified emergency services, but all help came too late for the boy. The emergency doctor tried to resuscitate him, but without success. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
Vora is in shock
The locals are stunned. According to the locals, the youth was “a nice guy”. “The atmosphere is at an all-time low,” confirms Mayor Patriz Rechberger.
Young woman questioned by police
The driver of the vehicle was wanted. According to the police, it was probably a silver VW car. A young woman reportedly turned herself in on Thursday afternoon. Police confirmed the initial interrogations, but did not provide any information about their identities.
Similar case a few months ago
A few months ago, a young man in Styria narrowly survived a similar hit-and-run accident.
Daniel Riepl was hit by a car on the Zirbitzkogel, dragged 200 meters and left on the side of the road with life-threatening injuries. To date, the driver has not come forward. Completely “incomprehensible” to the family.
