A majority, 57%, of the workforce (2,601 people) at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz supported the preliminary agreement reached between the trade union majority (CCOO, UGT, Ekintza and PIM) and management on the renewal of the factory collective bargaining agreement.

interviewed in Radio Euskadicthe Deputy Minister of Industry of the Basque Government, Mikel Amundarain, has assured that yesterday’s result is very positive given the investment announced by the management of the German company for the plant in the capital of Alava. “It is an important step in confirming the investments planned in Gasteiz, and it is a strong impulse for the Mercedes-Benz plant, for the city of Gasteiz and for the entire CAV sector,” he said.

He confirms that the investment of 1,200 million is “closer today than yesterday”, an investment which, according to the minister, is “a medium and long-term commitment” for Basque industrial activity. “It is of capital importance. We are talking about a platform that will form the basis for Mercedes-Benz’s future strategy,” he added.

Likewise, he emphasized the high participation of workers in the referendum – 94% – demonstrating, he added, “the commitment of workers” to the project.
