At the first run of the Hill Rally Cup in Pöllauberg, Styria, the petrol brothers in the Hartberg area went full throttle this weekend. About 3,000 fans saw the motorsport action at its best. However, several guardian angels were on board when Dominik Olbert drove. But see for yourself.
The engines roared again in the Hartberg area! 3000 petrol brothers didn’t want to miss the opening race of this year’s mountain rally season. And they didn’t have to regret coming.
They saw a sovereign victory from Werner Karl – for the man from Langenwang it was the first stage win ever! “I’m overjoyed, I liked the runs,” beamed Karl, who thundered up the hill like a child at Christmas time at an average of around 130 km/h. “That I can still experience that.” Reinhold Taus and Stefan Wiedenhofer stood behind him. It was also the end of the season for the third-placed driver, who will not be racing this year.
Dominik Olbert was unlucky: in the first run the fastest of the practice thundered just before the finish of the track and severely damaged his KTM X Bow. One or the other Marshal was lucky in the face of adversity (see video below). Thank goodness the pilot was on his feet after the crash (as can be seen in the video)…
Homeowner Felix Pailer, who finished sixth, was pleased with the result. “I will definitely continue to ride, but I probably won’t organize any more races,” the 72-year-old veteran lets out a back door. The fans and Pailer and Co. don’t have a long break anyway: on Easter Monday (18 April) the spectacle awaits in St. Andrä-Höch.
