Police have arrested a suspect after the shooting in downtown Sacramento, California. Several perpetrators are believed to have opened fire on Sunday, killing six and injuring 12 others. Now, investigators have identified a 26-year-old man as one of the suspects, police said in the California capital. He is suspected of assault and illegal possession of weapons. SWAT units also searched three residential buildings and seized a handgun.
The fatalities are three men and three women between the ages of 21 and 57. They were shot dead when strangers opened fire around 2 a.m. (local time) on Sunday night in a downtown entertainment area. Investigators discovered “more than 100 used cartridge cases” at the crime scene, police said in a broadcast.
Search for other perpetrators
A major argument preceded the shots, police chief Kathy Lester said on Sunday. There are indications that several perpetrators were involved. The police are therefore looking for other suspects and are asking the public for information. “The Sacramento County Attorney’s Office will review all evidence related to this investigation to file appropriate charges,” police said.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos and panic in the neighborhood as people fled or took cover, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
