Just as the number of infections is slowly but surely increasing, the Corona traffic light is also gradually getting darker. The responsible committee already put seven states on orange on Thursday, which corresponds to a high risk. Only in Carinthia and Styria there is an average risk, ie yellow. Recommendations were not made because the color scheme – as usual every two weeks – was agreed in a circular resolution.
The risk figure, which is largely based on the number of infections detected, determines the coloration. Vienna currently has the highest with 71.6 ahead of Burgenland with 69.6. After your 50th you are in the risk area. Carinthia with 49.5 and Styria with 47.9 are only slightly lower. Overall, the value has deteriorated in all Länder. Upper Austria and Vorarlberg are now in the orange range.
Test readiness continues to vary widely
The forecasting consortium recently proposed to focus more on the hospital floor, as the number of infections due to different test readiness no longer reliably reflects the spread of the virus. That is evident again this week. In Vienna, more than 22,700 tests per 100,000 inhabitants were administered, in Tyrol just over 3,300. The number of unreported cases is believed to be significantly lower in the countries with the highest number of tests.
Increase expected in hospitals
In terms of hospital occupancy, Burgenland has the worst value in both normal and intensive care. Forecasts for the next two weeks are for a further rise almost everywhere, but not in a critical area.
The average age of those infected is increasing
It is unfavorable that the trend among the over-65s, who are especially at risk, is currently rising even faster than among the general population (13 or seven percent). The average age rose last week from 42.4 to 43.3 years.
Highest Incidence in Vienna
The district with the highest incidence in the past seven days was Vienna – again with the limitation of the tests performed there particularly often – ahead of Oberpullendorf and Neusiedl/See. With the exception of the small statutory town of Rust, the fewest cases were recorded in Voitsberg and Spittal an der Drau.
