US President Joe Biden has been infected with the coronavirus. He has “very mild symptoms”. In accordance with CDC guidelines, the 79-year-old will isolate himself in the White House. During this time, he will “continue to fulfill all his duties”.
Biden tested positive on Thursday morning, the White House said in Washington on Thursday. The Democrat is fully vaccinated and has received two booster shots. Recently, however, there has been a plethora of corona infections in his government and those around him – including among those who had been vaccinated.
He will participate in the meetings scheduled for Thursday from his hometown via telephone and video conference. All of the president’s close contacts would be informed, including delegates about Biden’s recent trip to Massachusetts, where he went maskless and reached out to his voters (see tweet below).
Kamala Harris would represent Biden in an emergency
Should Biden be unable to perform his official duties at any time due to the infection, Kamala Harris would have to intervene. Biden is not the first corona case in the Oval Office: in 2020 then incumbent Donald Trump contracted the virus.
Biden was last tested negative for the coronavirus on Tuesday. He will work in isolation until he tests negative again. For the sake of transparency, the White House will report on the president’s health on a daily basis.
Other world leaders have also been affected, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. Johnson sometimes had to be treated in an intensive care unit.
