Many have fallen at the brewery inn in Freistadt, but this is not the case for a young stork, whose first attempt to escape from the brewery’s chimney ended in a spectacular crash landing. A video in the post shows that everything went well.
It is one of the most promising places where a pair of storks has nested high above Freistadt: the brewery’s approximately 30 meter high chimney. And there is a young Adebar ready to explore the world on his own wings. But the first attempt was not exactly successful.
The young stork spread its wings, but the “autopilot” did not work. The bird crashed into the roof of the brewery and then ended up in the guest garden. “He was slightly irritated, ‘coincidence’ as we say here,” reports Karin Binder of the Freistadt Animal Protection Center, where Adebar was able to recover for a few days from his traumatic brain injury and also from a damaged leg, the state frame, so to speak, could heal again.
Now that it’s back at the chimney, animal rights activists have used the municipal fire brigade’s jack-up platform to bring the stork back to the nest. “Hopefully the second attempt will be successful”, Karin Binder, the other animal rights activists and the fire brigade keep their fingers crossed for the young stork.
Also a crashed stork came from Bad Leonfelden to the animal shelter in Freistadt. He crashed into a house wall and broke his leg. Since he will need at least six weeks to recover, he will probably miss the connecting flight south and spend the winter in the Mühlviertel.
