In a room fire on Thursday evening in which a 93-year-old was killed, the man’s wife has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. The 90-year-old was overwhelmed by her husband’s concern, and there was also a dispute with property management.
After the fire, the cause of which was initially unclear, the Vienna State Police took over the investigation. The fire brigade was called around 2:30 a.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire for about two hours. The fire brigade had to contain the flames from the inside with breathing apparatus. 27 men and six vehicles were deployed.

The 90-year-old was rescued from the balcony by the emergency services with a turntable ladder. All help came too late for her husband. The woman, who suffered from smoke inhalation, was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of murder. The woman has since been taken to prison.
According to the police, she started the fire out of desperation with the help of newspapers. The woman then wanted to commit suicide, the researchers said.
