Representatives of Tyrol and the Zakarpattia region in war-torn Ukraine signed a reconstruction framework agreement on Monday. The content of the agreement is “deeper cooperation in the areas of health care, science and education, business and agriculture,” as the state of Tyrol announced in a press release.
A Ukrainian delegation led by the regional administrator of the Transcarpathian Oblast, Viktor Mykyta, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Wassyl Chymynets, is in Tyrol until Tuesday. The Ukrainian guest program includes numerous appointments and local visits.
Rehabilitation center for injured civilians
For example, the rehabilitation center in Bad Häring in the Unterland was visited on Monday morning. Staff there collected medical equipment, such as ultrasound machines, wheelchairs and bandages, to deliver to war-torn areas in Zakarpattia. Tyrol supports this initiative and will cover the transport costs. There would also be discussions about whether and to what extent the rehabilitation center could take over the treatment of civilians injured by war.
In March, 100 Tyrolean mountain sheep will be transported to Transcarpathia. The animals should be made available to sheep farms in Ukraine to set up professional lamb production.
Mattle: “Especially helps the children”
Tyrolean Governor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) emphasized the importance of cooperation: “The war in Ukraine and the many fates associated with it are getting under our skin. That is why we support the peaceful reconstruction in Ukraine and, above all, we help those who suffer most from the armed conflict, namely the children.”
