The dimensions of Thursday’s storm in Carinthia are sometimes devastating: roads and bridges were torn away, numerous houses are uninhabitable, twelve people are closed from the outside world in Leobengraben. The Kleinkirchheimer Bundesstraße (B88) and Kaninger Straße (L18) remain closed until further notice.
As reported, Thursday in the Langalm valley area in Kaning (municipality of Radenthein) and in St. Oswald (municipality of Bad Kleinkirchheim), mud flows along the Rossbach and Kaningerbach flows occurred as a result of the heavy storm. Streets were washed away and neighboring houses had to be evacuated.
“Our neighbors have now hit the second time. Her loving renovated house was made uninhabitable by the swirling stream. We recorded them. The bridge at the Lärchenweg has also been demolished ”, reports Tamara Glanzer-Scheiflinger from St. Oswald at Bad Kleinkirchheim. She remembers that everything was under water two years ago.
Alarm for civil protection activated

Due to the mud flows and the dangerous situation, Bad Kleinkirchheimer Strae (B 88) were from St. Peter to Bad Kleinkirchheim/Bach and Millstätter Straße (B 98) between Döbriach and Untertweng for all traffic. Millstätter Strasse (B98) was blocked. The accessibility of Kaning is currently being worked on feverishly. Kaninger Straße must be driven in one lane in the afternoon. Blockades in the vicinity of the Riegerbach are also gradually being lifted so that the stream becomes efficient again. Extra protection against floods was requested in the Waldwegsiedlung in Döbriach.
