A small truck and an SUV collided at an intersection of Triester Strasse in Vienna-Liesing. Three people were injured in the Friday night accident. “According to witnesses, the truck driver’s traffic light was red,” said police spokeswoman Barbara Gass. “The 42-year-old refused a breath alcohol test and does not have a valid driver’s license.”
In the collision, the van overturned, skidded into a pedestrian traffic light and neon sign. The truck driver, the SUV driver (49) and his 12-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, police said.
The fire service deployed three vehicles and 16 emergency services to winch the van onto its wheels after police recorded the accident. Spilled coolant has been cleared from the roadway.
“We checked and secured the heavily damaged neon sign. The MA 33 has de-energized the damaged traffic light, cut it off and covered it with a safety post,” said Christian Feiler of the professional fire brigade.
