Complaints of cheating – Poland: Germany wanted to supply tanks that were too old

Date:

Poland has sharply criticized the German government over the planned ring swap for arms supplies to Ukraine – even calling it a “deceptive manoeuvre”. Berlin is said to have offered tanks that were even older than the tanks Poland had already delivered to Ukraine.

“German promises to exchange tank rings have turned out to be deceptive maneuvers,” Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sek told Mirror (Friday). From a Polish point of view, the German offers are unacceptable, so they are now relying on the help of other NATO partners.

These offers should not be accepted because we have no interest in degrading the state of our armaments and training our soldiers on equipment from the 1960s.

Tanks from the US and Britain instead
“A symbolic number of tanks were offered,” said the deputy foreign minister. “It’s hard to take that as a serious suggestion after we delivered more than 200 tanks to Ukraine in two months.” That’s why Poland prefers to talk to other NATO partners “who really want to help us do that.” According to him, Poland is already receiving tanks from the United States and Great Britain.

The exchange of tank rings was intended to allow for a rapid delivery of heavy war material, which the soldiers in Ukraine are familiar with. Germany had announced that it would replace or assist NATO partners in the east. However, it has been stagnant for weeks. No public information has recently been given in Berlin about the exact state of affairs.
