The higher the temperatures, the more city fountains lure – also in Vienna. Bathing in itself is also not prohibited, if you follow certain rules.
The idea of the bath fountain is making waves. The Greens raised the issue. But the responsible MA 31 (Vienna Water) does not like the idea and strongly advises against it – as reported: “The water is not treated. That would not be possible with many monumental buildings. We offer hygienically safe alternatives for this.”
Water not suitable for bathing
Sounds plausible: Anyone who has seen the landscape around the fountain in Karlsplatz on a Saturday evening cannot seriously consider even sticking their little toe in the trickle.
How not to swim?
If you’re still thinking about it, don’t be naked, get caught peeing, or yell drunk — although these activities aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. Reports of decency, violation of the tidiness law or disturbance of the peace would then be conceivable and the police would probably intervene.
It is better to stick to the “bath rules”.
Conversely, if you wallow in dirty water in a groomed manner, you risk a nasty rash, but no punishment.
