A month and a half after the spectacular power outage during the international football match between Austria and Denmark at the Ernst Happel Stadium, the lights around the Wiener Prater went out again on Saturday evening. As the Wiener Netze announced on their website, there was no electricity in parts of Vienna-Leopoldstadt between 7:39 PM and 10:14 PM.
It was not known late on Saturday evening how many households are involved. The exact cause was also unclear. According to a report from “heute”, the Ernst Happel Stadium, rides in the Vienna Prater and 400 households were again affected, at least in the Prater the cause was a cable defect.
According to the report, some people were temporarily stuck in the attractions, but thanks to the emergency power generators, everyone had solid ground under their feet after 15 minutes at the latest. Neither the fire brigade nor the ambulance had to come.
Two errors have occurred and they have been fixed
At the request of the APA, the Vienna Fire Brigade did not have information about operations related to the power outage. There were only two operations in the area where a connection to the power outage was unclear. The Wiener Netze reported on their website of two outages in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, which started at 19:39. The first was set at 9:32 p.m., the second at 10:14 p.m. A “technical defect” was stated as the cause.
The June 6 power outage was caused by a broken power cable connector. At that time, about 1,500 households were affected, 90 percent of which were reconnected to the grid within an hour. For parts at the green Prater and at the Lusthaus, it was only the next morning that it was time again.
