After a motorcycle accident on the “Seiberer” near Weißenkirchen in the Wachau on Sunday, a dike caught fire. A young member of a group of motorcyclists had fallen. The damaged two-wheeler then leaked gasoline, which ignited in the heat. The motorcyclists called the emergency doctor and the fire brigade and fought the flames themselves – with iced tea – until emergency services arrived.
The ÖAMTC emergency helicopter “Christophorus 2″ was called up in the early afternoon for the accident on the popular motorcycle route in the Lower Austrian district of Krems-Land. The motorcyclists “started immediately with the ‘extinguishing work’ and put out the flames as best they could with their motorcycle boots. They have also used up their drink reserves, 1.5 liter bottles of iced tea,” pilot Gerold Hofbauer reported of the “unusual mission”.
Before the fire service arrived, the fire was limited to about 40 square meters. According to the information, the driver of the accident suffered a fracture of the lower leg, he was flown to the hospital in Krems.
