The Sakurajima Volcano, Southwestern Japanerupted, as announced this Sunday by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which has asked citizens to evacuate the area.
The volcano, located in Kagoshima Prefectureerupted at 08:05 local time (11:05 GMT) and the loose rocks fell as far as 2.5 kilometers away, although there are no immediate reports of injuries following the eruption.

About 600 people live within a radius of 4 kilometers around Sakurajima, one of the most active volcanoes in Japan, and the approach to the crater has been banned since 2016.
Japan is located on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire and it has 110 active volcanoes in its territory.
