Vikringer Otto Venhauer from Carinthia won the gold medal in orienteering at the World Championships in Puglia, Italy.
Otto Venhauer of OLCU Viktring has been involved in orienteering for over 50 years. At the age of 80, he achieved his greatest success: at the World Championships in Apulia, he won the title in the age category 80 plus. As the only Austrian of the 100 starters, he won the sprint that led through the streets of Peschici with a lead of 1:10 minutes. His wife Dietlinde finished ninth.
Not a day without sports
The Venhauers are a sports family, the children also participate in orienteering, granddaughter Laura is in the national team. As teachers, Otto and Dietlinde brought the sport closer to many students.
Otto Venhauer also draws cards, the other recipe for success is movement: running, cycling, ski touring, surfing until a few years ago. “We don’t have a day without sport”, the world champion laughs.
